If you erase hard drive can you reboot the operating system with the rebootable CD?

I want to erase my hard drive using DBAN or something, i hear it also erases the operating system. I want to know will you be able to reboot your operating system using the reboot CD?
My mistake i do mean boot CD.
Anyway, for some reason everytime i try to reboot my computer with the boot CD i always get this message saying ” toside.sys is corrupt.

Utilities like DBAN or KillDisk completely wipe a drive of all its data, such as by writing zeros to every bit on the disk. This is a time consuming process, but effectively removes all traces of data from the disk (including the OS). It is possible for digital forensics experts with the proper equipment (magnetic resonance detection) to retrieve data even from a zeroed hard drive, but that’s beyond the scope of this answer.

If your intent is to give away or sell this computer, then wiping the hard drive thusly is a wise move, as it will fully clear out all traces of your personal information.

If however you simply intend to give the computer a fresh start for your own use, you will save a lot of time by simply booting off the OS installation CD and opting to perform a quick format. This will cause the entire drive to register as blank space without actually wiping the files, and they will be systematically overwritten as the drive is used.

Here’s a quick breakdown for you.

Quick Format: Fastest method to clear a drive. Doesn’t actually wipe your files, and doesn’t check the drive for bad sectors. Use if you intend to keep the drive for personal use, and you have had no problems with the drive in the past.

Format: Somewhat time consuming. Doesn’t actually wipe your files, but checks each sector on the disk for reliability and marks bad sectors as unusable. Use if you intend to keep the drive for personal use, and if the reliability of the drive is uncertain (i.e. if you just acquired it second-hand)

Zeroing: Very time consuming. Methodically writes a 0 to every bit on the drive, removing all traces of the previous files. Also identifies bad sectors, although whether or not such sectors are flagged as unusable depends on the utility you use.

Gutmann Zeroing: Extremely time consuming. Completely wipes a drive as mentioned above, but performs this 35 times in succession to remove even the traces of magnetic resonance. Only really useful if you’re trying to hide something, as this level of zeroing exceeds even the Department of Defense standards.
