Nib Learn
Did they use a quill or metal pen nibs during 1770’s.?

I actually learned to write with a dip pen and inkwell when I was a student back decades ago. I’ve gotten to wonder: when they wrote the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution were they still using goose quills to write with or had they already invented metal nibs and were using those?

I remember reading a biography of John Adams, and one of the thing it listed that he sent home from Paris while he was an ambassador to France was a quantity of brass nibbed pens, which abigail said were nearly impossible to find in America.

I know that’s not a complete answer, as that was the 1780s, and the situation may have been different 20 years earlier, but it does say that both were around and in use at that time.
