What are good websites for computer hardware?
I need to know things like how many pins are in a parallel cable, how many wires are in a cat5 cable and things of this nature. Any website with statistics on hardware cables and pins would help me out.
I would say newegg.com or tigerdirect.com. They seem to have a bunch of stuff at very reasonable prices. Just be sure you read what your getting. Some places (such as Tiger Direct) sell seconds, and refurbished items as well as new stuff.
Good Luck.

‘In Silico’ Simulation of Biological Processes No. 247 $195 Over recent decades vast amounts of biological data have been accumulated. However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to apply traditional theoretical methods to the formulation of coherent pictures of cell and organ function because it is no longer possible for a human theorist to integrate all of the available information. Instead, computer technologies must now be used to perform this integration. This book brings together contributions from many different fields to summarize the current status of computer-assisted modelling of biological processes. The initial chapters deal with fundamental developments in hardware, software and mathematics that underlie current approaches to biological modelling. Next, different approaches to collating data on gene structure and function are presented. These databases form a vital resource for any investigator trying to construct an integrated picture of particular biological systems.Cell signalling systems form a particularly complicated aspect of all cellular function and are important both in the understanding of basic cellular processes and in selecting targets for drugs. Recent approaches to integrating data on cell signalling into computer models are covered. Further chapters build on these approaches to show how computerized models of intact cells can be developed. Finally, approaches to the computer modelling of whole organs such as the heart are presented. The role of computer modelling in drug design is the subject of the final chapter and is also touched on throughout the discussions. |

3D User Interfaces $74.99 Here’s what three pioneers in computer graphics and human-computer interaction have to say about this book: What a tour de force–everything one would want–comprehensive, encyclopedic, and authoritative. –Jim Foley At last, a book on this important, emerging area. It will be an indispensable reference for the practitioner, researcher, and student interested in 3D user interfaces. –Andy van Dam Finally, the book we need to bridge the dream of 3D graphics with the user-centered reality of interface design. A thoughtful and practical guide for researchers and product developers. Thorough review, great examples. –Ben ShneidermanAs 3D technology becomes available for a wide range of applications, its successful deployment will require well-designed user interfaces (UIs). Specifically, software and hardware developers will need to understand the interaction principles and techniques peculiar to a 3D environment. This understanding, of course, builds on usability experience with 2D UIs. But it also involves new and unique challenges and opportunities. Discussing all relevant aspects of interaction, enhanced by instructive examples and guidelines, 3D User Interfaces comprises a single source for the latest theory and practice of 3D UIs.Many people already have seen 3D UIs in computer-aided design, radiation therapy, surgical simulation, data visualization, and virtual-reality entertainment. The next generation of computer games, mobile devices, and desktop applications also will feature 3D interaction. The authors of this book, each at the forefront of research and development in the young and dynamic field of 3D UIs, show how to produce usable 3D applicationsthat deliver on their enormous promise.Coverage includes: The psychology and human factors of various 3D interaction tasksDifferent approaches for evaluating 3D UIsResults from empirical studies of 3D interaction techniquesPrinciples for choosing appropriate input and output devices |

A Theory of Computer Semiotics $141.99 Semiotics is the science of signs: graphical, such as pictures; verbal, writing or sounds; or others such as body gestures and clothes. Computer semiotics studies the special nature of computer-based signs and how they function in use. As computers have become a feature of daily life, work and education, the design of the interface has become of prime importance, so that machines can be used quickly and easily. Systems are more easily learned if the designer takes his or her departure point in the established sign usage of the users, for example, their language, and conscious use of signs in designs improves the benefits and ease of using computers. Introduces basic traditional semiotic concepts and adapts them so that they become useful for analyzing and designing computer systems in their symbolic context of work. It presents a novel approach to the subject, rich in examples, in that it is both theoretically systematic but practical. The author refers to and reinterprets techniques already used so that readers can deepen their understanding. In addition, it offers new techniques and a consistent perspective on computer systems that is particularly appropriate for new hardware and software whose main functions are presentation and communication. |

AHB-1b Blackouts 7-String Guitar Phase I Active Humbucker Bridge Pickup Black – Seymour Duncan -11106-34-B-7Str $97.95 DESCRIPTIONS: Seymour Duncan AHB-1b 7-String Phase I Active Bridge Humbucker is a direct retrofit for passive 7-string humbuckers made by Seymour Duncan and DiMarzio . This Blackouts humbucker provides extended frequency response with less compression for your 7-string electric guitar. Seymour Duncan engineers have captured the tone players want in an active pickup with the benefits of balanced inputs. Not only do Seymour Duncan Blackouts have less hum than most active humbucker pickups, they also have more lows, more highs, and more output. Simply put, the Duncan Blackouts have more tone than most active pickups. Players will find far fewer problems with hum, especially near computer monitors and fluorescent lighting. Many USA-made active humbuckers use unbalanced inputs in a differential preamp. The problem is, an unbalanced differential preamp is not very effective at canceling hum. Seymour Duncan’s engineers figured out how to capture the tone that guitarists want in an active pickup, but using balanced inputs. The result is 12dB to 14dB less noise, plus more lows, more highs, and more output. All Seymour Duncan Blackouts pickups include all necessary mounting hardware, including pots, jack, and a battery clip. |

Access Control, Security, and Trust: A Logical Approach $143.47 Developed from the authors’ courses at Syracuse University and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, Access Control, Security, and Trust: A Logical Approach equips readers with an access control logic they can use to specify and verify their security designs. Throughout the text, the authors use a single access control logic based on a simple propositional modal logic. The first part of the book presents the syntax and semantics of access control logic, basic access control concepts, and an introduction to confidentiality and integrity policies. The second section covers access control in networks, delegation, protocols, and the use of cryptography. In the third section, the authors focus on hardware and virtual machines. The final part discusses confidentiality, integrity, and role-based access control.Taking a logical, rigorous approach to access control, this book shows how logic is a useful tool for analyzing security designs and spelling out the conditions upon which access control decisions depend. It is designed for computer engineers and computer scientists who are responsible for designing, implementing, and verifying secure computer and information systems. |

Accessibility Inspector $43.99 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Accessibility Inspector is a software utility by Apple, Inc. made to verify the accessibility of Mac OS X applications. It displays information about the GUI element that is currently under the cursor. Utility software is a kind of system software designed to help analyze, configure, optimize and maintain the computer. A single piece of utility software is usually called a utility (abbr. util) or tool. Utility software should be contrasted with application software, which allows users to do things like creating text documents, playing games, listening to music or surfing the web. Rather than providing these kinds of user-oriented or output-oriented functionality, utility software usually focuses on how the computer infrastructure (including the computer hardware, operating system, application software and data storage) operates. Due to this focus, utilities are often rather technical and targeted at people with an advanced level of computer knowledge. |

An Introduction to Mathematical Logic and Type Theory: To Truth Through Proof $169 This introduction to mathematical logic starts with propositional calculus and first-order logic. Topics covered include syntax, semantics, soundness, completeness, independence, normal forms, vertical paths through negation normal formulas, compactness, Smullyan’s Unifying Principle, natural deduction, cut-elimination, semantic tableaux, Skolemization, Herbrand’s Theorem, unification, duality, interpolation, and definability. The last three chapters of the book provide an introduction to type theory (higher-order logic). It is shown how various mathematical concepts can be formalized in this very expressive formal language. This expressive notation facilitates proofs of the classical incompleteness and undecidability theorems which are very elegant and easy to understand. The discussion of semantics makes clear the important distinction between standard and nonstandard models which is so important in understanding puzzling phenomena such as the incompleteness theorems and Skolem’s Paradox about countable models of set theory. Some of the numerous exercises require giving formal proofs. A computer program called ETPS which is available from the web facilitates doing and checking such exercises. Audience: This volume will be of interest to mathematicians, computer scientists, and philosophers in universities, as well as to computer scientists in industry who wish to use higher-order logic for hardware and software specification and verification. |

An Invitation to 3-D Vision $59.5 Endowing machines with a sense of vision has been a dream of scientists and engineers alike for over half a century. Only in the past decade, however, has the geometry of vision been understood to the point where this dream becomes attainable, thanks also to the remarkable progress in imaging and computing hardware. This book addresses a central problem in computer vision — how to recover 3-D structure and motion from a collection of 2-D images — using techniques drawn mainly from linear algebra and matrix theory. The stress is on developing a unified framework for studying the geometry of multiple images of a 3-D scene and reconstructing geometric models from those images. The book also covers relevant aspects of image formation, basic image processing, and feature extraction. The authors bridge the gap between theory and practice by providing step-by-step instructions for the implementation of working vision algorithms and systems. Written primarily as a textbook, the aim of this book is to give senior undergraduate and beginning graduate students in computer vision, robotics, and computer graphics a solid theoretical and algorithmic foundation for future research in this burgeoning field. It is entirely self-contained with necessary background material covered in the beginning chapters and appendices, and plenty of exercises, examples, and illustrations given throughout the text. |

Applied Linear Algebra and Matrix Analysis $18.18 This new book offers a fresh approach to matrix and linear algebra by providing a balanced blend of applications, theory, and computation, while highlighting their interdependence. Intended for a one-semester course, Applied Linear Algebra and Matrix Analysis places special emphasis on linear algebra as an experimental science, with numerous examples, computer exercises, and projects. While the flavor is heavily computational and experimental, the text is independent of specific hardware or software platforms.Throughout the book, significant motivating examples are woven into the text, and each section ends with a set of exercises. The student will develop a solid foundation in the following topics*Gaussian elimination and other operations with matrices*basic properties of matrix and determinant algebra*standard Euclidean spaces, both real and complex*geometrical aspects of vectors, such as norm, dot product, and angle*eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and discrete dynamical systems*general norm and inner-product concepts for abstract vector spacesFor many students, the tools of matrix and linear algebra will be as fundamental in their professional work as the tools of calculus; thus it is important to ensure that students appreciate the utility and beauty of these subjects as well as the mechanics. By including applied mathematics and mathematical modeling, this new textbook will teach students how concepts of matrix and linear algebra make concrete problems workable.Thomas S. Shores is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where he has received awards for his teaching. His research touches on group theory, commutative algebra, mathematical modeling, numerical analysis, and inverse theory. |

Astronomical Cybersketching: Observational Drawing with PDAs and Tablet PCs $34.95 You love sky watching and are excited by what you see through your telescope. You want to keep a record of what you see. You want others to see it. These are all good reasons to put down your pencil and pad and get started cybersketching! What is cybersketching? It is using a small computer, such as a laptop or a PDA, to make a sketch of what you see through your telescope or even with your naked eye. Particularly good subjects are the Moon and the brighter planets, but even deep space has much to offer a cybersketcher. Why cybersketch? Sketching what you see is a fantastic way not only to record what you see but to share it with others. Before imaging, sketching was the only way people had of sharing their discoveries. With all the fancy new imaging devices around, sketching has become something of a lost art. But it shouldn’t be! Not only is it an inexpensive and quick way to record and share what you see. It also helps you to hone your observational skills. Using a computer gives you a variety of exciting and fun tools to use and ways to make your sketches almost professional, so you can show them off and display them. In this book, Peter Grego outlines the evolution of cybersketching, with a brief review of the history of computers, hardware and software, and how to use the tools that are now available to astronomy buffs. If you are not sketching because you think it is old-fashioned, or if you are sketching using only a pencil and paper, read this book and see why you are missing out on some terrific new technologies that are easy to use and affordable to nearly everyone. Become an astronomical cybersketcher, and you will find that the time you spend exploring the night sky is even more rewarding than you ever imagined. |

Bootstrapping: Douglas Engelbart, Coevolution and the Origins of Personal Computing $15 Bootstrapping analyzes the genesis of personal computing from both technological and social perspectives, through a close study of the pathbreaking work of one researcher, Douglas Engelbart. In his lab at the Stanford Research Institute in the 1960s, Engelbart, along with a small team of researchers, developed some of the cornerstones of personal computing as we know it, including the mouse, the windowed user interface, and hypertext. Today, all these technologies are well known, even taken for granted, but the assumptions and motivations behind their invention are not. Bootstrapping establishes Douglas Engelbart’s contribution through a detailed history of both the material and the symbolic constitution of his system’s human-computer interface in the context of the computer research community in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s.Engelbart felt that the complexity of many of the world’s problems was becoming overwhelming, and the time for solving these problems was becoming shorter and shorter. What was needed, he determined, was a system that would augment human intelligence, co-transforming or co-evolving both humans and the machines they use. He sought a systematic way to think and organize this coevolution in an effort to discover a path on which a radical technological improvement could lead to a radical improvement in how to make people work effectively. What was involved in Engelbart’s project was not just the invention of a computerized system that would enable humans, acting together, to manage complexity, but the invention of a new kind of human, “the user.” What he ultimately envisioned was a “bootstrapping” process by which those who actually invented the hardware and software of this new system would simultaneously reinvent the human in a new form. The book also offers a careful narrative of the collapse of Engelbart’s laboratory at Stanford Research Institute, and the further |

Build Your Own Pc $19.25 “Build your own PC”, is a clear, condensed, yet easy to read computer building manual for beginners. The book closely works with the guide that accompanies the motherboard. The two books work hand in hand. The focus of “Build your own PC” is only on building the PC, and not on the quagmires of repairs, and upgrades. The actual PC building process only takes a skilled person about an hour to complete. However the builder is encouraged to take their time, and follow the steps in the manual. The book is written in steps to help the builder avoid costly mistakes, and has test points along the way. “Build your own PC” is also written to help the builder install windows, and software drivers after building the PC. After finishing the book, the PC is ready to use. In “Build your own PC”, informing you what to do if something doesn’t work, is also taken into account. The book does not leave the reader stranded. Taking over two years to write, “Build your own PC” is based on a step by step building process developed by the author.”Build your own PC”, lets the reader choose what they want in a PC. The book does not steer the builder towards just a few PC’s like most PC building books, and articles do. The manual starts with a little hardware history, then helps the reader choose their components carefully with helpful guidelines, and considerations. The book even helps you choose an operating system. “Build your own PC” keeps future upgrades in mind, so you can upgrade if you need to. The book has only seven, simple, illustrations to help the reader focus only on what the author is talking about, so the builder can concentrate on what they are doing. There’s even a pricingexample for all the components that go into a top notch PC. However, PC part prices change weekly. “Build your own PC” also has a general troubleshooting section, and a PC maintenance section. The book also includes a section on how to install games, in a way that when you |
